October 1 is observed as the International Day of Older Person across the World. The day was introduced by the United Nation. They hold an aim of honouring the contributions of older people and focus on the problems they face in society. Older people deserve a significant space in the society as they have made significant contributions to us by sharing experiences, knowledge and assisting their families with various responsibilities. The overall theme for the United Nation International Day of Older Person’s in 2022 is “ Resilience of Older Person’s in a changing world.”On this year, the activities concentrated on to create awareness of the resilience of older women in face of environmental, social, economic and lifelong inequalities.The UN also highlight the importance to include older women in the centre of all policies,ensuring gender equality. On October 3rd, Bharata Mata School of Social Work, Thrikkakara associated with Association for Social Development Suhruth Sadan for celebrating International Day of Senior Citizen on the 93rd death anniversary of Venerable. Fr. Varghese Payyappilly. The department got an opportunity to perform a street play ‘Nirav 2022’ at MG Municipal Town Hall, Aluva.The programme performed by the students, upholds the idea of Ageing with Dignity and Respect.The street play portrayed the themed on visualisation of contemporary context and the paradigm of new changes. The event ‘Adarav’ was inaugurated by Sri.Benny Behnan MP and the Chief Guest was the famous South Indian actress Amala Paul.This event was the first exposure for the ground level campaign to the students to perform their
street play in front of a huge gathering and, the play was performed by 16 social work students.
Objectives
● To give an awareness regarding the dignity and respect older people deserve in the
society.
● To address the problems older people face in contemporary society.
● To make older people believe in their own strength and capabilities.
Agenda
This street play conducted by the students focused on improving confidence among the social work trainees to perform in front of large crowd.It also concentrated on creating an effective and innovative teamwork among students thereby improving their skills, The trainees performed two street plays in connection which portrayed the theme that age doesn’t have a barrier to follow the passion each individual has in their life. The other upholds the theme that each and every elder person is the responsibility of ourselves and they deserve happiness and content in their life.
