Innovative teaching-learning methods

The teaching learning pedagogy at Bharata Mata School of Social work includes a combination of novel methods, content and technologies to provide an innovative Social work education experience for students. The methodology followed aims to develop professional aptitude, subject clarity, interpersonal skills, communication skills, reflective and critical thinking, data collection and management skills, conflict resolution skills, skills for working in organizations, and skills in negotiation among students. The pedagogy used is student centric and participatory, in which students participate in both learning and teaching activity. The activity oriented and participatory method creates an inclusive platform for students from diverse background.

Following are the teaching – learning methods used:

  • Community engagement:

Social work education integrates learning with practicum experiences, in a myriad of community settings that entrenches social work within higher education’s mandate for academics and students to become more engaged. The community engagement tries to develop a mutual benefitted relationship between department and communities to produce an output which is of benefit to larger society. Interweaving community engagement with class room learning helps students to imbibe the theory better.  Students experience in the field develops insights and also the challenges of bringing theory into practice. There will be discussion/ role plays/report writing after field each engagement which makes students understand the discipline much better. Students learn to organise collaborative programs, negotiations, communication, leadership etc which will add to their professional growth. This also helps to understand the problems seen at individual, group and community level.
