The World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

  Elder abuse also called elder mistreatment is occurring within any relationship where there is an expectation of trust, which causes harm or distress to an older person. The law protecting the elderly from abuse are similar to and related to laws protecting dependent adults from abuse. It includes harm by people the older person knows, or has a relationship with, such as a spouse, partners, or family members etc. as to reduce the abuses faced by older people, World Elder Abuse Awareness Day was established after the United Nations General Assembly officially acknowledged it in its resolution 66/127, in December 2011. The World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) is celebrated on June 15. The purpose of WEAAD is to provide an opportunity for communities around the world to promote a better understanding of abuse and neglect of older persons by raising awareness of the culture, social, economic and demographic processes affecting elder abuse and neglect.
