With deep sorrow, we remember Padma Shri Cheruvayal Raman (1952–2026).
Affectionately known as Nellachan, the tribal farmer from Kammana, Wayanad, devoted his life to protecting Kerala’s traditional rice varieties and the knowledge passed down through generations. The seeds he saved, and the humility with which he did it, will keep teaching us.
Our students were fortunate to spend time with him, and we will always remember it. May his soul rest in peace.
